BUFFALO, N.Y. – Diego Rivera (East Meadow, NY/Cairo Durham) of the Buffalo State men's soccer team and Delaney McCarthy (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) of the Buffalo State women's volleyball team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week presented by UBMD Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. The duo was also named SUNYAC Athletes of the Week in their respective sports.

McCarthy, a junior health & wellness major, was a force at the net for the Bengals resulting in a 3-0 weekend as Buffalo State picked up wins against Plattsburgh, Potsdam, and Clarkson. McCarthy totaled 16 blocks while also adding 10 digs and a 1.000 reception percentage. McCarthy had a high of seven blocks in the four-set win over Clarkson.

The Bengals return to action on Friday as they will host Oneonta for a SUNYAC matchup at 6:00 pm.

Rivera, a senior childhood education major, continued his stellar season helping the Bengals clinch the number two seed in the SUNYAC Tournament following a win over Oswego and a draw with Plattsburgh. Rivera scored twice against the Lakers and once with the Cardinals as he set the Buffalo State program records in goals (25) and points (58) in a single season.

The men's soccer team returns to action later today as they travel to Hobart for a non-conference battle.
