BUFFALO, NY – Gavin Wilczewski (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) of the Buffalo State men's volleyball team and
Vanessa Willick (Williamsville, NY/Buffalo Bisons) of the Buffalo State women's hockey team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week, presented by UBMD Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Wilczewski, a junior communications major, was stellar as he helped lead the Bengals to a 4-0 start to the season, including wins over #20 Misericordia and #16 Hobart. In three matches played, Wilczewski totaled 41 kills, a .318 hitting percentage, eight digs, and eight total blocks. His weekend was highlighted with 19 kills and a .412 hitting percentage in the win over Misericordia. Wilczewski was also named the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week.
The men's volleyball team returns to action this weekend as they will battle Potsdam and Regis College.
Willick, a senior childhood education major, scored both goals for the Bengals as they earned a tie with #5 Nazareth on Friday evening. Willick netted the game-tying goal short-handed with just under two minutes to go in regulation to force overtime. On the year, Willick is second on the team with eight goals, six assists, and 14 points.
The women's hockey team retuns to action on Friday as they will host Morrisville at 3:00 pm.
