BUFFALO, NY – Vanessa Willick (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) of the Buffalo State women's lacrosse team and
Jackie Heyden (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) of the Buffalo State acrobatics & tumbling team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week, presented by UBMD Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Willick, a senior childhood education major, led the Bengals in a pair of non-conference home matchups against Nazareth and Utica. In Wednesday's win over the Golden Flyers, Willick totaled five points on three goals and two assists. She also tallied nine ground balls, two caused turnovers, and six draw controls. In Saturday's effort with the Pioneers, Willick added five more goals, an assist, four ground balls, and four draw controls.
The women's lacrosse team returns to action tomorrow as they will host Hilbert on Coyer Field at 4:00 pm.
Heyden, a senior exceptional education major, led the Bengals to their first win over the season over Calvin as they eclipsed the 200-point barrier for the first time in program history as they scored a 206.765. She was part of the team's toss event and six-element acro that each set new program marks. Buffalo State scored a total of 24.700 in the toss event and a 7.550 in the six-element acro.
The acrobatics & tumbling team returns to action on March 20 as they will host Canisius and #8 Mary Hardin-Baylor to close out the regular season.
