HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After sweeping their opening weekend of the season, the Bengals looked to keep their form, hosting the Chatham University Cougars in a weekend series.
  • In the opening period, the Bengals set the tone early, dominating possession and keeping the puck in the Cougars zone. Credit to the Cougars, whose strong goaltender play kept the Bengals off the scoreboard for majority of the period. However, the Bengals would strike first with a goal in the 16th minute of play, before a Cougars response would tie things up in the 19th minute of action. Right before the first intermission horn, the Bengals would net a breakaway goal to head into the intermission with a one goal lead.
  • Exiting the intermission, the Bengals would keep their foot on the gas, as they would go on to score three-unanswered goals in the second and extend their lead to four goals midway through the second period. While the Cougars would trim their deficit to three goals, following a goal in the 14th minute, the Bengals would close the period strong with a goal in the 15th minute and head into the second intermission up four goals on the Cougars.
  • In the third period, the Bengals remained steady with strong defensive play to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard. In return, a late goal in the period would give the Bengals the extra boost past the finish line, closing out the Cougars in their 'Hockey Fights Cancer' game and securing their third win of the season.
FOR THE FOES
  • Hailey Braaten and Isabella Allsopp would score for the Cougars.
  • In net, Sam Brophy made 42 saves between the pipes.
