HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After defeating the Chatham University Cougars, 7–2, the previous night, the Buffalo State Bengals looked to start their season 4–0 and complete a weekend sweep of the Cougars.
  • In the opening period, play began much like the night before, with the Bengals pressuring early and generating quality looks on net. This time, however, the Cougars countered with strong offensive shifts of their own, pushing the Bengals back on their heels. Despite the pace and chances on both ends, neither team could break through, sending the game into the first intermission tied 0–0.
  • The second period carried the same theme, as both sides continued to produce scoring opportunities but still couldn't find the back of the net. The Bengals maintained steady pressure, especially during multiple power-play chances, but the Cougars' defense stood tall to keep the game scoreless heading into the second intermission.
  • In the third period, the intensity ramped up as both teams battled for the go-ahead goal. The Bengals sustained an impressive offensive push, keeping the puck deep in the Cougars' zone, but the Cougars' defense remained firm, turning aside every chance the Bengals created. The Cougars, meanwhile, generated strong looks of their own, but the Bengals' defense answered with key clears and blocked shots. With neither team able to capitalize, the game moved to overtime still deadlocked.
  • In overtime, the Bengals struck first with dangerous chances in search of the game-winner. However, it would be the Cougars who broke through, scoring with two minutes remaining in the extra frame to hand the Bengals their first loss of the 2025 season.
FOR THE FOES
  • Willow Robers scored the game-winning goal for the Cougars.
  • In net, Morgan Miller secured the shutout victory with 38 saves.
