CLERMONT, FL – The Buffalo State softball team earned a split as they fell to Springfield but earned a thrilling win over Edgewood as they returned to action this afternoon at THE Spring Games.
GAME ONE BASICS

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) got the start for the Bengals going six innings allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts.
- Lucas and Grace Albano (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) each had an RBI for the Bengals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Springfield got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the second inning.
- Buffalo State responded immediately in the third inning with a pair of runs to even the score at 2-2.
- Springfield was able to score the eventual game-winning run in the fourth inning despite a late threat from the Bengals offense.
FOR THE FOES
- Lucy Puskas hit the two-run homer for the Pride.
- Amelia DeRose went the distance for Springfield allowing just the two runs on five hits.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Lucas and Madalyn Montes (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island)paced the Bengals with two hits and two RBI.
- Ashley Jedrich (Victor, NY/Victor) had a multi-hit performance while Albano, Deme Kellogg (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls), and Natalie Burck (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) each had an RBI.
- Gianna Core (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) earned her first career win on the mound pitching two innings in relief allowing two runs on two hits with a strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bengals offense got going early with a three-run bottom of the first inning.
- After each side exchanged a run, Edgewood came back with a three-run fifth inning to even the score. The Eagles then added a pair of runs in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead entering the bottom half of the inning.
- Montes had a strong showing at the plate with a game-timing two-run double with two outs in the sixth.
- Lucas came through in the very next at-bat with an RBI hit to left to give the Bengals a 7-6 lead.
- Core came out for the seventh and sat down the Eagles 1-2-3 to secure the win.
FOR THE FOES
- Olivia Herbert and Gracie Halfman each had a pair of RBI for Edgewood.
- Grace Baugnet went six innings allowing six earned runs on 12 hits with a pair of strikeouts.
