HOW IT HAPPENED
- Starting the season with a 3-0 record, the Bengals entered a highly anticipated matchup against a competitive Nazareth University Golden Flyers team, aiming to match their best start since 2013. However, the opening quarter proved challenging as the Golden Flyers struck first with back-to-back goals, quickly taking the lead. The offensive surge continued, with Nazareth scoring five unanswered goals, putting the Bengals in their largest deficit of the season. Despite the rough start, the Bengals responded with two late goals, cutting the gap to three heading into the second quarter.
- The Bengals fought to regain momentum in the second quarter, but an early Golden Flyers goal widened the deficit once again. Although the Bengals answered to trim the margin back to three, Nazareth closed the quarter with two consecutive goals, sending Buffalo State into halftime trailing by five.
- Looking to spark a comeback after the break, the Bengals aimed to shift the momentum. However, the Golden Flyers remained in control, opening the third quarter with back-to-back goals. While the Bengals found the net twice in the period, Nazareth maintained its dominance, adding two more goals before the quarter's end. With a seven-goal deficit heading into the fourth, the Bengals needed a major push to keep their unbeaten record intact.
- In the final quarter, the Golden Flyers focused on possession control to manage the clock. After adding another goal, the Bengals responded with a two-goal run in an effort to close the gap. Despite their push, Nazareth maintained control, handing the Bengals their first loss of the 2025 season.
