Softball Stays Hot in SUNYAC Play, Sweeping the Cardinals

PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Buffalo State softball team continued their winning-ways as they clinched another double-header sweep, this time against the Plattsburgh State Cardinals.

GAME ONE BASICS

FINAL SCORE: Buffalo State – 4, Plattsburgh State – 1
LOCATION: Cardinal Park – Plattsburgh, NY
RECORDS: Buffalo State: 11-10 (3-0 SUNYAC), Plattsburgh State: 5-11 (2-3 SUNYAC)

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) continued her hot weekend of play, crushing a home run in game one, and finishing the game with three hits, a double and three RBI's. Mya Hurley (Williamsville, NY/Amherst) also carried on her strong play, finishing the game with two hits, two doubles and an RBI.
  • Ella Stewart (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) had a stellar performance, with two hits and a double. Grace Albano (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) also added a hit in game one's action.
  • In the pitcher's circle, Pezdek and Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) each saw time on the circle, with Pezdek striking out four batters and Lucas getting the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Opening this matchup with the Plattsburgh State Cardinals, things remained even as both team's defense held strong, while the offensive end looked for a jolt of energy. 
  • The Bengals struck gold first, scoring three runs at the top of the fourth inning, thanks doubles from Stewart and Hurley, before a Pezdek homer would round out the inning.
  • While the Cardinals would respond with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, both teams would remain at a stalemate before a sixth inning sacrifice fly would bring home a Bengals runner and clinching a game one victory over the Cardinals.
FOR THE FOES
  • Bella Toleman would pick up the lone RBI for the Cardinals.
  • Carly Gemmett pitched all seven innings, striking out nine batters.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Cam O'Hara (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) joined the fun, adding a three-run RBI double in game two. Hurley would also add an RBI to her total, as well as another hit.
  • Albano, Lucas, and Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) would all add a hit to the scorer's sheet from game two's action.
  • Pezdek would pitch 6.1 innings, striking out five batters, and picking up the win while Jean Rogers (Schenectady, NY/ Mohonasen) would pitch as well in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sensing rain in the forecast, both teams decided to get the scoring out of the way early with a seven-run first inning between the Bengals and the Cardinals.
  • A Hurley single would find the Bengals up a run early, before O'Hara's double would bring home three Bengals and take a 4-0 lead over the Cardinals. In the bottom of the first inning, the Cardinals would respond with three runs of their own.
  • Luckily for the Bengals, strong pitching and defense kept away rally from the Cardinals at bay, as they were shut out the remaining of the game, clinching the Bengals third SUNYAC sweep of the season.
FOR THE FOES
  • Mikayla Manalo and Bella Toleman led the Cardinals with two hits, while Meghan Stork and Megan Pillus picked up a RBI each.
  • Morgan Ormerod pitched all seven-innings, striking out two batters on 81 pitches.

The Bengals will look to keep their hot streak going in SUNYAC play, as they return home and host a doubleheader against the Cortland Red Dragons, Tuesday, April 15th at 3:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.
