HOW IT HAPPENED
- In their final regular season game, the Buffalo State Bengals aimed to return to the win column as they hosted the Oswego State Lakers for their home finale. The Lakers came out strong, netting two early goals to set the tone. Although the Bengals responded midway through the first quarter, the Lakers answered with two more scores to carry a multi-goal lead into the second.
- The Lakers maintained control in the second quarter, generating quality chances and tacking on three more goals. Needing a spark, the Bengals found the back of the net in the final five minutes of the half. A defensive stand in the closing seconds kept the Lakers off the board, with the Bengals entering halftime trailing by five.
- The third quarter turned into a shootout, with both teams exchanging blows. The Bengals stayed within reach early, but the Lakers' two-goal burst widened the gap. Each Bengals score was met with a quick Lakers response, and the visitors ultimately outscored Buffalo State 7–4 in the quarter to take an eight-goal lead into the final frame.
- The Bengals battled to the end, trimming the deficit with a pair of fourth-quarter goals, but the Lakers steady pressure, including two more scores midway through the period, kept the game out of reach. The Bengals fell in their home finale but not without a silver lining: the effort capped off a successful regular season that secured the program's first SUNYAC Championship berth since 2018, and the first playoff appearance under Head Coach Ashley Holdridge and Assistant Coach Bean Minerd. Congratulations, Bengals!
FOR THE FOES
- Madison Davis and Mackenzie Winn led the Lakers with five-points, with Julia Quirk leading with four goals.
- Alana Iacovissi picked up the win in net, making nine saves.
