Softball Sweeps Morrisville To Open SUNYAC Play

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State softball team earned a double-header sweep against the Morrisville Mustangs tonight on Dobson Field in a SUNYAC matchup.

  • Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) paced the Bengals with two hits, two RBI, and pitched five shutout innings on the mound striking out six Mustangs.
  • Grace Albano (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Mya Hurley (Williamsville, NY/Amherst) each picked up a pair of hits.
  • Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) pitched two innings of relief to give Buffalo State their first shutout of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State got the scoring started early in the first inning with a run after an error from Morrisville.
  • The Bengals then added three runs in the second after base hits from Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) and Albano, and a double from Lucas.
  • Lucas would keep the Mustangs offense silent allowing just two base runners in her final three innings of work.
  • Deme Kellogg (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) laced a triple in the fifth inning to score a run for the Bengals before Pezdek came in to shut the door on a third straight win for Buffalo State.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Emery Sawitzki picked up a pair of hits for Morrisville.
  • Piper Kaylor pitched 5.2 innings allowing five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.

  • Lucas continued her strong day at the plate with three hits and five RBI.
  • Kellogg and Cam O'Hara (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) each knocked in a pair of runs for Buffalo State.
  • Jean Rogers (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) earned the win on the mound going three innings allowing four runs on three hits before Pezdek and Gianna Core (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) came in and pitched four shutout innings of relief.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State got the offense going early again with five runs across the first two innings. Lucas picked up a two run single in the first before the Bengals rallied for three runs in the second.
  • The Mustangs responded with a four run top of the third inning to cut the lead to 5-4.
  • The Bengals kept the offense strong in the bottom of the fourth scoring five runs and capitalizing on a pair of errors from Morrisville.
  • After the Mustangs scored a pair in the fifth, Core and Pezdek were able to shut the door on another Bengals win.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Kaylie Kendrick and Celeste Baldwin each drove in two runs for the Mustangs.
  • Kendall Darling took the loss on the mound going five innings and allowing seven runs on nine hits.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals return to the diamond on Wednesday as they will travel to Nazareth for a non-conference battle.
