ONEONTA, NY – The Buffalo State softball team had an offensive outburst scoring a combined 16 runs in wins over Plattsburgh and New Paltz to open play in the SUNYAC Tournament.
GAME ONE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Buffalo State – 8, Plattsburgh – 0 (5 Innings)

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Erin Paolilli (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) and Ella Stewart each had three hits for the Bengals.
- Stewart also had four RBI in the win.
- On the mound, Izzy Pezdek (Grand Island, NY/Lancaster) went five innings allowing just one hit with two walks and four strikeouts.
- Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) was honored pregame as she received the Elite 20 Award: given annually to the student-athlete with the highest GPA while also succeeding on their field of play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stewart opened the scoring for the Bengals in the second inning with a three-run double.
- In the third, Quagliana hit an inside the park home run for Buffalo State before they scored two more runs in the inning.
- The Cardinals could not string any offense against Pezdek as the Bengals scored a pair of runs in the fifth to earn the win in the first round elimination game.
FOR THE FOES
- Carly Gemmett got the start for the Cardinals allowing six runs with six strikeouts.
GAME TWO BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Buffalo State – 8, New Paltz - 2
LOCATION: Red Dragon Field – Oneonta, NY
RECORDS: Buffalo State: 22-16 (14-4 SUNYAC), New Paltz: 22-17 (15-3 SUNYAC)
INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) and Cam O'Hara (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) each had three hits.
- Quagliana added a pair of hits and two RBI.
- Pezdek got the start again in game two going the distance with three strikeouts allowing just two earned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Each side traded a run back-and-forth in each of the first two innings.
- Quagliana smacked an RBI double in the third to give the Bengals the lead.
- Pezdek helped her own cause with an RBI hit in the fourth to extend the Buffalo State lead.
- The Bengals pounced for four runs in the seventh that was capped-off with a two-run single from Gigi Martinez (Chicago, IL/Whitney M. Young).
- Pezdek finished the Hawks in the seventh with a double-play and a strikeout to give the Bengals the win.
FOR THE FOES
- Mallory Rohon had two hits for the Hawks.
