Men's Soccer Takes Down Brockport In Non-Conference Matchup

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State men's soccer team stayed undefeated following a 6-2 victory over the Brockport Golden Eagles tonight on Coyer Field.

  • Diego Rivera (East Meadow, NY/Cairo Durham) paced the Bengals with a four-goal effort.
  • Rivera is now one goal shy of setting the program record for most goals over a three-year career.
  • Salvador Gomes (Lisbon, Portugal/Colegio de S. Thomas) and Tapiwa Mushonga (Johannesburg, South Africa/Hilton College) also scored for Buffalo State while Faisal Samim (Baldwinsville, NY/Liverpool) picked up a pair of assists.
  • Carson Smith (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) picked up a rare goalie assist while recording seven saves in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rivera got the Bengals offense going early scoring just over five minutes into the contest.
  • Gomes and Mushonga joined in on the scoring shortly after as they each netted their second goals of the season.
  • Rivera added a second goal shortly before the end of the half to give the Bengals a 4-0 lead into halftime.
  • Kicking things off in the second half, Rivera secured his third goal of the evening on a penalty kick opportunity.
  • The Golden Eagles got on the board shortly after, but Buffalo State responded immediately as Rivera posted the first four-goal game of his career.
  • Brockport netted a second goal late in the half, but the Bengals were able to shut the door on another victory.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Andrew Watrous made seven saves in the effort.
