Men's Soccer Earns Second Straight Shutout In Win Over Hilbert

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State men's soccer team earned a dominant 6-0 win over the Hilbert Hawks this afternoon on Coyer Field.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Diego Rivera (East Meadow, NY/Cairo Durham) and Aney Djadou (Buffalo, NY/Amherst) paced the Bengals offense with a pair of goals.
  • Zaccaria Gerosa (New York, New York/U. of Nebraska HS) and Lesedi Sekhobo (Albany, NY/Shaker) each scored as well for the Bengals.
  • Tapiwa Mushonga (Johannesburg, South Africa/Hilton College) earned two assists while Rivera added one of his own. With five points today, Rivera set the program record for most points in a three year career with 105.
  • Carson Smith (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) and the Bengals defense did not allow a shot on goal for their fifth shutout on the year and second straight.
     
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bengals offense came out firing as Gerosa and Rivera each scored within seconds of each other to give Buffalo State and early 2-0 lead.
  • Rivera added his second goal of the game just a few minutes later off a pass from Matthew Stasyuk (Syracuse, NY/Marcellus).
  • Djadou scored a pair of goals in the final minutes to give the Bengals a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, Sekhobo scored his second goal of the season to put the game away for the Bengals.
  • Buffalo State held strong down the stretch allowing Hilbert to just one shot through the matchup.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Daniel Downes made six saves in the effort for Hilbert.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals return to action next Saturday as they will host Potsdam at 1:00 pm to open SUNYAC play.
