HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bengals entered day one of the William Smith Tournament, still searching for their first win of the season after a challenging showing at the Pacific Coast Classic in California. Facing host, the William Smith Herons, in the opening set, the Bengals fell behind early as the Herons jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The Bengals responded with a four-point rally to grab a 12-9 advantage, but momentum shifted again as the Herons strung together five straight points and ultimately claimed the first set.
  • The second set was all Herons. The Herons opened with an eight-point run before the Bengals could get on the board. Despite battling back, the Bengals couldn't close the gap, dropping the set and falling into a 2-0 hole.
  • In the third set, the Bengals came out strong, taking a 5-3 lead. However, the Herons countered quickly with consecutive rallies to regain control. The Bengals fought to stay close, but a late nine-point surge from the Herons sealed the match, as the Bengals fell in straight sets.
FOR THE FOES
  • Malya Sayre led all players with 21-kills in today's contest. Delainy Williams added 34 assists, while Kali Vanderhoof led with 14 digs on defense.
