HOW IT HAPPENED
- After losing to the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons last night, the Bengals sought a win against the New Paltz Hawks.
- In the opening quarter, the Bengals would fall behind early after a stout 6-0 run by the Hawks, who made it hard for the Bengals on the offensive end. As play continued, the Bengals would grit their way back into this matchup, but the Hawks would continue their hold, going on an 8-0 run to close out the quarter, with the Bengals trailing by double digits early.
- In the second quarter, the Bengals would tighten up on defense, holding the Hawks to tough shots. However, the Hawks would do the same to the Bengals, keeping this low-scoring quarter for both teams, with the Bengals heading into halftime trailing.
- Exiting halftime, the story would remain the same as the second quarter, with both sides playing tough defense and making each other hit tough baskets. Another low-scoring affair benefited the Bengals, with a fourth-quarter comeback in play.
- In the fourth, as the Bengals looked to build momentum, the Hawks responded with an 11-0 run to cool them off. While the Bengals kept their intensity in this bout, the Hawks' hot shooting was too much, and the Bengals fell to the Hawks.
FOR THE FOES
- Hannah Vanderzee led all scorers with 16 points, while Karly Wittenbauer added 12. Wittenbauer and Macie Perry each had eight rebounds for New Paltz.
- The Hawks shot 35.2% from the field, 23.1% from three, and 81.8% from the line.
