HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a tough outing last night against the New Paltz Hawks, the Bengals looked to bounce back as they traveled to SUNY Oneonta to take on the Red Dragons.
  • In the opening quarter, the play would lean in the Bengals' favor, as a stout defensive effort was on display from the jump. In return, the Bengals would jump out in front, but the Red Dragons wouldn't go down easy, as they picked up their first lead of the game midway through play. However, the Bengals would continue to lean on their defense, holding the Red Dragons to only ten points, and walked into the second quarter with a four-point lead.
  • In the second quarter, the Red Dragons would go on the attack, going on a 7-0 run to recapture the lead over the Bengals. A very competitive quarter saw both sides attack the rim and make tough shots, with each defense stepping up the intensity. As halftime neared, the Bengals would see their lead turn into a deficit, as they walked into halftime down two points to the Red Dragons.
  • In the third quarter, the Bengals would hold steady in their strong effort and play, not letting the Red Dragons jump out too far ahead in this SUNYAC bout. After trading baskets much of the quarter, the Red Dragons would hit some threes to extend their lead to double-digits, but the Bengals responded with some great shot-making, returning this one back to a two-possession game. Nevertheless, the Red Dragons responded with a 7-0 run to close the quarter, sending the Bengals into the final quarter of play down by double-digits.
  • In the fourth, the Red Dragons would extend their lead once again on the Bengals, keeping the Bengals at bay. A strong outing by the Bengals would fall short, as the Red Dragons would drop the Bengals on the road.
FOR THE FOES
  • Lidia Boucher led the Red Dragons with 14 points, with Addy Eckert adding 13 points in support. Eckert also earned a double-double, adding 13 rebounds to her day.
  • As a team, the Red Dragons shot 38.1% from the field, 32.0% from behind the three-point line, and 68.8% from the free-throw line.
UP NEXT
The Bengals will stay on the road in their next bout, traveling to SUNY Morrisville next Tuesday, February 10th, to take on the Mustangs at 5:30 PM.
