HOW IT HAPPENED
- After sweeping Hilbert College last night, the Bengals returned to the road to face Penn State Behrend in AMCC action.
- In the first set, the Bengals fell behind early as the Lions jumped out to a commanding lead following a six-point rally. While the Bengals answered with a three-point rally to stay afloat in the set, the Lions would take advantage of some Bengals' mistakes, closing out the set with back-to-back points and stealing the first set from the Bengals.
- Hoping to respond in the second set, the Bengals once again faced an eerily similar script as the Lions leaped ahead and forced Buffalo State to play catch-up. Both sides traded points after a four-point Bengals rally, but the Lions responded with three straight points to regain the lead. While the Bengals fought back, the Lions maintained their composure to secure the second set and threaten a three-set sweep.
- Facing a must-win situation, the Bengals needed a strong third set to keep up with the Lions' attack. Taking the early lead, Buffalo State rallied for five straight points and then capped another run with three more, successfully holding the Lions at a distance and cruising to a third-set win.
- As the Bengals' momentum grew, the Lions attempted to stall the shift, opening the fourth set with back-to-back three-point runs to take the lead. However, the Bengals would respond with strong, steady play, taking advantage of key Lions mistakes and stealing the lead in the set. As both sides fought to claim the set, the Bengals would come out on top, claiming the fourth set and forcing a fifth and final set to decide a winner in this one.
- And in the fifth set, it would be all Bengals…taking an early lead and winning the battle to "8" over the Lions, with the Bengals using momentum and grit to grind out a five-set victory over the Lions and keep their unbeaten streak in AMCC play alive at 15 games.
FOR THE FOES
- Cameron Schleicher led the Lions with 15 kills, while Luke Mumpower finished the night with 42 assists.
- Defensively, Mumpower led the way with 11 digs, with Joseph Sciscio finishing with five total blocks at the net.
