CLERMONT, FL – The Buffalo State softball team continued action today at THE Spring Games as they dropped both matchups featuring St. Lawrence and Union.
GAME ONE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: St. Lawrence – 7, Buffalo State – 6
LOCATION: THE Spring Games – Clermont, FL
RECORDS: St. Lawrence: 1-4 (0-0 Liberty League), Buffalo State: 4-3 (0-0 SUNYAC)
INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Ella Stewart (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) picked up two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
- Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) also drove in two runs for the Bengals.
- Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) got the start on the mound going 3.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Buffalo State offense came out firing the first two innings scoring five runs total.
- Quagliana laced a two-run single in the first to get the Bengals going before Stewart knocked in a run in the second. Buffalo State would score two more runs in the second thanks to a wild pitch and a single from Erin Paolilli (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington).
- The Saints slowly chipped away at the Buffalo State lead as they scored three runs in the third as well as the fourth inning to take a 6-5 lead.
- Natalie Burck (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) tied the game in the sixth for the Bengals with a base hit to left field.
- Marina Juan doubled to left center in the bottom of the seventh to earn the walk-off hit for St. Lawrence.
FOR THE FOES
- Juan finished with two hits for the Saints while Madison Smith earned the win on the mound following 1.1 innings of relief.
GAME TWO BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Union – 8, Buffalo State – 4
LOCATION: THE Spring Games – Clermont, FL
RECORDS: Union: 4-6 (0-0 Liberty League), Buffalo State: 4-4 (0-0 SUNYAC)
INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Pezdek and Grace Albano (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) each had two hits for the Bengals.
- Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) got the start going 1.2 innings allowing five runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Union got the scoring started with four runs in the top of the first inning.
- The Bengals got two of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning after Quagliana reached on an error and Deme Kellogg (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) drew a bases loaded walk.
- The Garnet Chargers scored four more runs across the next three innings of action. In the bottom of the fourth, Ashley Jedrich (Victor, NY/Victor) and Briana Fitzgerald (Rensselaer, NY/Rensselaer) each had an RBI hit to keep Buffalo State in the action.
- Despite the effort, Union was able to hold the Bengals for the final outs.
FOR THE FOES
- Carra Cleaves went the distance on the mound with four strikeouts while also hitting a home run in the second inning.
