THE MATCHUP… The Bengals are set to continue their championship season at AARTFC Regionals this weekend at The Armory in New York City. After a strong showing at SUNYAC Championships, the Bengals will look to keep the momentum going into this year's regional meet. Last season, the men finished tied for 37
th overall while the women finished tied for 18
th overall.
THE BENGAL MEN BREAKDOWN… Six different Bengals will be competing on the men's side for Buffalo State. Opening the action on Friday will be the prelims of the 60-meter dash featuring
Terrell Price (Depew, NY/Depew) and the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles featuring
Jalil Coppedge (Bronx, NY/Ralph R. McKee).
Ethan Mitrano (Penfield, NY/Penfield) will also compete in the shot put Friday evening.
Saturday will feature the finals of the 60-meter dash and hurdles, should Price and Coppedge qualify, in addition to the men's 400-meter with
Pablo Ortiz (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) and the men's 800-meter with
Sidney Morris (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East). Mitrano will compete again on Saturday in the weight throw where he will be joined by
Bryan Honan (Cortland, NY/Cortland).
THE BENGAL WOMEN BREAKDOWN… Buffalo State will send three women to compete at the regional meet with all three competing on Saturday.
Natalia Sawyer (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) will race the 400-meter where she aims to defend her title after winning the event last season with a meet record time of 56.43 seconds.
Joining Sawyer on Saturday will be
Madison MacNeill (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) in the high jump and
Nyla Wilson-Epps (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) in the weight throw.
ASSESSING THE COMPETITION… Buffalo State will see the likes of over 60 teams across the region. Last season, Rowan finished first on the men's side while Geneseo came away with the win on the women's side. Among SUNYAC schools, Cortland had the highest finish on the men's side, taking home third, while Delhi had the highest finish on the women's side finishing 15
th overall.
