Ricky Curiel And Nyla Wilson-Epps Named Bengal Athletes of the Week

BUFFALO, NY – Ricky Curiel (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) and Nyla Wilson-Epps (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) of the Buffalo State outdoor track & field team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week, presented by UBMD Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.

Curiel, a freshman electrical engineering major, set his second program record of his freshman outdoor campaign as he took down the 5,000 meter record on Friday at the UB Invite with a time of 15:10.94. He broke the previous mark of Alex Ngabo from 2013 by nearly :13 seconds. He also set the 10,000 meter record earlier this season with a time of 31:24.81. Both marks are currently the top times in the SUNYAC.

Wilson-Epps, a freshman health & wellness major, continued her breakout freshman campaign with another school record in the shot put at the UB Invite on Friday. Her mark of 12.49 meters gives her a third school record this outdoor season (along with the hammer throw and discus throw) and the top mark in the SUNYAC. She also holds the top mark in the discus throw, is fourth in the hammer throw, and was named the SUNYAC Field Athlete of the Week.

The outdoor track & field team returns to action on Saturday at the Fredonia Invite.
