Dan Allen

Dan Allen completed his fourth season as head coach of Buffalo State's men's and women's swimming and diving programs in 2013-14. He made an instant impact in his first year at the helm as the Bengal swimmers set 21 school records, including 17 at the SUNYAC Championships, and Buffalo State's men posted their best conference finish since 2002 and the women had their best showing since 2007.

The 2013-14 season was highlighted by the program's first individual men's SUNYAC swimming and diving champion since 2001, when freshman Alec Fleet claimed the conference title in 1-meter diving.

Prior to coming to Buffalo State, Allen was the head coach at Division II Salem International University for one season. Prior to that stint, he served as an associate coach for four years at his alma mater, Geneseo, assisting in all aspects of the program, while serving as the primary coach for the distance swimmers. He helped mentor 13 NCAA Division III Championship participants that earned 45 All-American certificates, and helped coach his teams to a combined six SUNYAC titles. Allen was part of a staff that was twice the recipient of the SUNYAC Coaching Staff of the Year.

Allen was also a standout swimmer at Geneseo. A 13-time SUNYAC champion, he helped lead his team to three team titles and was named the 2005 SUNYAC Championship Most Outstanding Swimmer. Allen was a participant in the 2004 NCAA Championships and was honored as the 2004 Rochester Area College Swimmer of the Year.

His additional coaching experience includes work with Geneseo, Hamilton and the University of Texas swim camps, and serving as the head swimming coach at Penfield Country Club. He is also certified in lifeguarding/first aid and CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, and is a water safety instructor trainer.

A native of Rochester, Allen completed his bachelor’s degree in communication from Geneseo in 2006.
