BUFFALO, NY—Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON/Chingaucousy) scored the Bengals first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough to defeat the No. 2-ranked team in Division III as visiting Elmira (3-0/1-0) defeated Buffalo State (0-3/0-1), 4-1, in the ECAC West opener for both teams today at the Ice Arena.

The Bengals struck first, scoring at the 6:11 mark of the first period, with McMullan's goal coming after a scramble in front of the Elmira net, assisted by Brianna Murphy (Depew, NY/Lancaster) and Gillian Toneguzzo (Caledonia, ON/McKinnon Park). The Soaring Eagles responded with four unanswered goals, including three on the power play.

Elmira outshot Buffalo State, 36-12. Alyssa Koniar (New Berlin, WI/Univ. School of Milwaukee) made 32 saves for the Bengals.

Buffalo State and Elmira will face off again tomorrow at the Ice Arena at 2 p.m.
