POTSDAM, NY—Buffalo State (2-4) split a pair of three-set matches today in the opening day of the North Country Invitational, defeating Word of Life and falling to Potsdam.

The Bengals bettered Word of Life in the first match, 25-7, 25-6 and 25-13. Katie Sember (Buffalo/Kenmore West) led Buffalo State with seven kills, and Paige Ottaviano (Pt. Colborne, ON/Lakeshore Catholic) had 11 assists.

In the late match, Potsdam topped the Bengals, 25-17, 25-22 and 25-20. Sember and Katelyn Grew (Lackawanna/Mt. Mercy) each had eight kills, and Jessica Guadagno (N. Collins/N. Collins) tallied 11 digs.

Buffalo State will continue competition at North Country tomorrow.
