Utica Skates Past Women’s Hockey on Late Goal

BUFFALO, NY— Meghan McMahon scored the game winner for Utica (3-0/2-0) with just 1:05 remaining in regulation to give the Pioneers a 2-1 victory over host Buffalo State (1-3/0-2) in an ECAC West game today at the Ice Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Utica got on the board at the 4:29 mark of the second period to take a 1-0 lead. The Bengals responded later in the period, as Bri Murphy (Depew, NY/Lancaster) found the back of the net on the power play at 18:47. The Pioneers had a goal disallowed midway through the third stanza, keeping things tied at 1-1, before they tallied the game winner. Christine Williams (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls, NY) had an assist for the Bengals.

Utica outshot Buffalo State, 32-25. Alyssa Koniar (New Berlin, WI/Univ. School of Milwaukee) had 30 saves in the loss.

Buffalo State travels to Potsdam next Saturday for a two-game series with the Bears.
