ELMIRA, NY—The No. 3-ranked team in the nation Elmira (16-4-1/11-2-1) scored six third-period goals to pull away from visiting Buffalo State (8-11-1/5-8-1) for a 7-1 victory in an ECAC West game tonight at the Murray Athletic Center.
The Soaring Eagles finally opened the scoring at 17:19 of the second period while both teams had a player in the penalty box. The game opened up in the third period, however, with Elmira netting six goals, including four in a span of less than four minutes.
Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON/Chingaucousy) tallied an unassisted shorthanded goal for Bengals to cut the lead to 3-1 midway through the final frame, but the Soaring Eagles pulled away from there.
Elmira outshot the Bengals 62-23 and was 3 for 8 on the power play.
Alyssa Koniar (New Berlin, WI/Univ. School of Milwaukee) made 49 saves on 54 shots for Buffalo State before being relieved by
Jess Garland (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) for the final 9:15.
Buffalo State will hit the road again next Saturday and Sunday to visit Neumann for a two-game conference set.
