POTSDAM, NY—Buffalo State (3-4) dropped a pair of matches today in the opening day of the Potsdam VPI Invitational, losing in straight sets against Clarkson and falling in five against Hamilton.

Clarkson bested Buffalo State in the opening match, 25-21, 25-10 and 25-19. Mary Naboi (Syracuse/Nottingham) had a team-high five kills for the Bengals. Stephanie Kazmierczak (Buffalo/City Honors) dished out 20 assists, and Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) had 17 digs.

In the late match, Buffalo State pushed it the distance, but could not overtake Hamilton, falling 13-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23 and 13-15. Allyson Pierce (Olcott/Newfane) paced the Bengals with 13 kills and four blocks. Kazmierczak had 33 assists, and Moore added 16 digs and three aces.

Buffalo State will meet Morrisville State and Potsdam tomorrow at 1 and 3 p.m. respectively.
