Women’s Volleyball Bounces Back at Cortland

CORTLAND, NY—Buffalo State (3-2) earned a pair of victories today, sweeping Montclair State and pulling out late-match heroics over Potsdam, in the second and final day of the Cortland Red Dragon Classic.

The Bengals pounded out a straight-set victory over Montclair State in the morning match, 25-11, 25-18 and 25-23. Sherrell McLean (Buffalo/City Honors) had a Buffalo State-high 11 kills. Stephanie Kazmierczak (Buffalo/City Honors) dished out 27 assists, and Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) picked up 12 digs.

Buffalo State rallied past Potsdam in the late match, prevailing 20-25, 26-24, 25-23, 17-25 and 15-12. The Bengals trailed 9-5 in the final set, but retaliated with seven-straight points to take the lead and then closed it out for the win. Allyson Pierce (Olcott/Newfane) had a pair of kills during the 7-0 run. McLean led the Bengals' offense again with 16 kills. Kazmierczak added 45 assists and Moore had 13 digs.

Kazmierczak was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Buffalo State will hit the road again next weekend for the Potsdam Invitational.
