BUFFALO, NY—It was redemption day for Chatham (1-4), as the Cougars scored three power-play goals and defeated Buffalo State (3-4), 5-2, after having lost a pair of conference games last weekend against the Bengals.

The Cougars opened the scoring at the 1:21 mark of the first period, but the game was quickly tied when Lauren Mallo (Maple Ridge, BC/Thomas Haney) netted her first of the season just over a minute later.  Chatham regained the lead later in the period with its first on the power play.  The two teams traded goals in the second period, with Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/W. Seneca West) bringing Buffalo State back to within one, when she scored her second of the season on the breakaway. 

Chatham put the game out of reach, netting two goals in the final stanza, to close out all scoring.

The win was the first for Chatham since Feb. 20, 2010.

The Bengals held a 31-22 advantage in shots, but were 0 for 4 on the power play.  The Cougars finished 3 for 6 with the extra skater.  Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, CO/Widefield)  and Sarah Quigley (Canon, MA/National Sports Academy) combined for 17 saves in the loss.

Buffalo State will next host nationally-ranked Plattsburgh in a pair of conference games with the first face-off on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m.
