BUFFALO, NY—Freshman Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/W. Seneca West) scored twice to propel Buffalo State (4-6-1) to a 3-2 win over visiting Cortland (1-9-1) in a non-conference game this afternoon at the Ice Arena.

Kirchberger recorded her first of the game late in the first period and added another in the second at the 10:36 mark. Melissa Ash (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) scored just 1:10 later to give the Bengals the 3-0 lead.  Cortland scored on the power play with less than a minute remaining in the second and added another early in the third to get to within one, but couldn't net the equalizer. 

Buffalo State outshot the Red Dragons, 23-19 and Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, CO/Widefield) had 17 saves in the win.

The Bengals will return to action on Jan. 5 when they host Adrian at the Ice Arena at 7 p.m.
