Box Score ELMIRA, NY—No. 3 Elmira (14-3-1/9-0) scored three times in the third period to skate to a 4-1 victory over visiting Buffalo State (2-16/2-9) in an ECAC West game this afternoon.
The Soaring Eagles got on the board 7:27 into the first period and maintained the 1-0 advantage into the final frame. After pushing the lead to 2-0 in the opening minute in the third, Buffalo State cut the deficit in half six minutes later on
Megan Niesyty's (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) second of the season with assists from
Kara Goodwin (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) and
Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca). Elmira would extend the lead two minutes later with a power-play goal, and then add an insurance marker to complete the scoring.
Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, CO/Widefield) finished with 48 stops to give Buffalo State a chance as the Bengals were outshot, 52-11, for the game.
Buffalo State and Elmira will square off again tomorrow at 2 p.m.
