Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca) had a goal and an assist and Buffalo State (3-19-2) erased a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 tie against visiting University of New England (8-11-5) in a non-conference game tonight at the Ice Arena.
UNE opened the scoring with a pair of second-period goals, but Kirchberger got the Bengals on the board in the closing minutes of the middle frame with a one-timer off a feed from
Kara Goodwin (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) that snuck inside the left post.
Megan Niesyty (E. Amherst/Clarence) also had an assist. Buffalo State evened the score midway through the third period when
Melissa Ash (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) scored on a goal-mouth scramble on the power play to complete the scoring. Goodwin and Kirchberger assisted on the tally.
UNE finished with a 35-24 advantage in shots.
Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, CO/Widefield) finished with 33 saves for the Bengals. Buffalo State was 1 for 6 on the power play, and killed off all four shorthanded chances.
