Box Score BUFFALO, NY— Potsdam (10-7-3/6-4-3) netted the game winner on the power play in the second period and held on to defeat Buffalo State (2-18/2-11), 3-2, in an ECAC West game tonight at the Ice Arena.
The Bengals got on the board first when
Kara Goodwin (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season at the 9:34 mark of the first period, but the lead was short-lived as the Bears tied the game 32 seconds later. Potsdam would tally another goal in the closing minute to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission.
The Bears extended their lead early in the second stanza, before
Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/W. Seneca West) found the back of the net at 18:58 to make it 3-2 and close out all scoring.
Alison Mish (Canastota, NY/Canastota),
Melissa Ash (Binghamton, NY/Chenanga Valley) and
Jackie Madison (Mentor, OH/Mentor) each picked up an assist.
Potsdam outshot Buffalo State, 26-18.
Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, CO/Widefield) stopped 23 shots, including a breakaway save with five minutes left to play to keep the game close for the Bengals.
Buffalo State and Potsdam will play again tomorrow at 2 p.m.
