Women’s Soccer to be honored with SUNYAC and NCAA banner unveiling during Friday men’s basketball game

Buffalo State's women's soccer team will be honored during halftime of the men's basketball game this Friday for its record-setting season with the unveiling of the SUNYAC Championship and NCAA playoff banners in the rafters of the Sports Arena.

Buffalo State set a school-record with 17 wins and made program history during the 2016 season, winning its first-ever SUNYAC title and advancing to the NCAA tournament for the first time.  The Bengals finished the season 17-1-3 overall and were ranked 21st in the final NSCAA national poll.

The Bengals also swept the SUNYAC end-of-season awards.  Senior Melissa Smith (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was the league's Offensive Player of the Year, senior Kristin Seiferth (Brightwaters/Bay Shore) was the Defensive Player of the Year, Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) was the Rookie of the Year, and Nicholas DeMarsh was the Coach of the Year.  In addition, senior Jenna Smolinski (Hamburg/Hamburg) was recognized as the league's Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The team will be honored on the court at halftime of Friday's men's basketball against Cortland, and the banners will be hung in the rafters.  The game begins at 5:30 p.m. with the halftime festivities taking place a little after 6 p.m.
