BUFFALO, NY— The Buffalo State women's hockey team began the season with a 2-1 victory in an exhibition game against King's College on Saturday evening at the Ice Arena.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Buffalo State – 2, King's College - 1
LOCATION: Ice Arena - Buffalo, NY
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tori Fadeley (Buffalo, NY/Cazenovia Chiefs) got the Bengals on the board first in the first period. Fadeley slid a pass to J.J. Johnson (Readfield, ME/Kents Hills) for a shot that was saved, but Johnson and Sarah Jackson (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls Rapids) jarred the puck from the goaltender back out in front of goal. Fadeley circled behind the net, and was in perfect position to deposit the loose puck into an open net.
- Sissy Harman (Eden, NY/Morrisville State) supervised a clean first period in goal.
- Carys Ursell (Calgary, AB/Calgary Fire) doubled the Buffalo State lead in the second period. Lexi Lazore (Akwesasne, NY/Ontario Hockey Academy) took a shot from the point that was blocked by a defender in front of goal. The puck dropped right to Ursell, who slid it past the goalie.
- The Monarchs pulled within one with just over 17 minutes remaining in the third period.
- The Bengals penalty-kill killed off 29 seconds of a 5 on 3, and then the remaining 1:31 of a 5 on 4 with just under five minutes remaining to maintain their 2-1 lead.
- The Bengals kept the puck in the offensive zone for the majority of the final minutes to close out the game.
- Jessica Auge (Laingsburg, MI/Honeybaked Detroit) played the final 40 minutes in net, allowing just the one goal.
FOR THE FOES
- Dianna Duncan netted the goal for the visitors.
