Buffalo State names Margolis head women’s soccer coach

Buffalo State has named Greg Margolis, Ph.D., its new women's soccer coach effective April 20.

Margolis served as the head coach of both the women's and men's soccer programs at Elmira College for the past year.  Prior to Elmira, he spent one season as an assistant coach with the women's program at Williams College. During his time with the Williams women's program, Margolis was responsible for recruiting, scouting, performed sports psychology on a group and individual basis, and assisted in all practice and game planning, with a focus on the defensive tactical setup for the team. He helped the Ephs reach the 2019 NCAA Quarterfinals and obtain a national year-end ranking of No. 13. He also coached the NESCAC Player of the Year and a pair of United Soccer Coaches All-Americans.

Before Williams, Margolis served as the assistant coach for the women's soccer team at Allegheny College (2018-19) and men's soccer program at Methodist University (2017-18). Similar to his role at Williams, Margolis was responsible for the recruiting efforts, scouting, tactical analysis, and culture building at both programs.

He began his coaching career with the men's program at Springfield College as an assistant coach from 2012-16, helping the team capture the 2016 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title, as well as a pair of ECAC New England Regional championships.

Margolis is a 2012 graduate from Ursinus College with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science with a minor in coaching. He then completed his master's in sport and exercise psychology, as well as a doctorate in sport and exercise psychology from Springfield in 2014 and 2017, respectively. He also owns United States Soccer Federation D & F Licenses, United States Soccer Federation Grassroots 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11 Licenses, and a United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeper Level 1 Diploma.

In addition to his collegiate coaching career, Margolis served as the head coach for the Liberty Point U16 team in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the operations coordinator for the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer, and a cognitive performance coach for the United States Military.
