Volleyball Braces for Pair of Home Matches this Weekend

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team is back in SUNYAC action this weekend, hosting Plattsburgh State on Friday evening, and Potsdam on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Arena.

BREAKING DOWN THE BENGALS…
  • Buffalo State enters the weekend with an 8-6 overall record (1-2 SUNYAC). The Bengals took care of business on Tuesday evening at home, defeating Houghton three sets to one.
  • Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) leads Buffalo State with 107 kills on the season, an average of 2.38 kills per set.
  • Jenna Hugenschmidt (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence), Erin Mergler (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North), and Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) are the three Bengals to have played in all fifty sets this season.
 
A BIRD-EYE VIEW OF THE CARDINALS…
  • Plattsburgh State sits at the bottom of the conference with a 4-9 overall record (0-4 SUNYAC). The Cardinals were swept by New Paltz on Saturday at home to drop their sixth consecutive match.  
  • Jenn Braun leads the team offensively with 84 kills, with Payton Zophy right behind her with 80 kills.
  • Plattsburgh is seventh in the conference with 1.45 total blocks per set, but last in nearly every offensive category.  
 
THE HISTORY
Buffalo State holds a 16-12 edge over Plattsburgh all-time including defeating the Cardinals in five sets last season behind 12 kills by Eden Harrison (Eldersburg, MD/Century) and 11 kills by Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport).
 
BEARING DOWN…
  • Potsdam enters the weekend at 10-6 overall (1-3 SUNYAC). The Bears are riding a two-match winning streak after defeating John Jay on Saturday afternoon.
  • Potsdam has a 7-1 record in matches at home, but is just 2-3 in matches on the road this season.
  • The Bears are lead Jessica Ader's 173 kills, fourth-most in the SUNYAC this year. Sophia Rowny also has 104 kills for Potsdam.
 
THE HISTORY
The all-time series is tied between the two squads at 13-13. The Bears came away with the victory in four sets last season.
