Women’s Hockey hosts Potsdam in weekend series

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo State women's hockey will try to break a three-game skid as they set up for a weekend NEWHL showdown against SUNY Potsdam. This game is rescheduled from Jan. 14-15. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, and at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Ice Arena.

Eyes on the Bengals
-Buffalo State comes into this weekend with a 1-14-1 (0-9-0 NEWHL) record and are looking to get back on track after playing their first game in 17 days last Tuesday. Katie Sarich (Columbia, Md./Washington Pride U19) scored her first career goal for the Bengals, while Sage Running Rabbit (Siksika, Alta./U18 AA Elite Southern Express) tallied two assists in the 9-2 loss to Morrisville. Valerie Helminen (Laurium, Mich./Finlandia University) made her first career start for Buffalo State, making 33 saves in her debut.
 
- Running Rabbit is looking to continue her high play, she has tallied a point in five of the last six games.
 
- Bethany Horvatits (Elma, N.Y./Cazenovia Chiefs) looks to keep her scoring streak alive with a two-game goal streak. She is also second on the team with goals and points.
 
Keeping up with the Bears
-Potsdam has an overall record of 5-11-1 (3-7-1 NEWHL). They are coming off winning two of their last four games. One of the losses came in overtime against Canton.
 
-Junior Megan Teachout (Auburn, N.Y./Oswego State) scored two goals and added two assists in her Bears debut in the 4-2 win over Canton.
 
-Junior Kaylee Merrill (Wasilla, Alaska/Anchorage North Stars) scored two goals in their last meeting with the Bengals.
 
-Both of Potsdam's goaltenders have played seven games with sophomore Ellie Zurfluh (Aravada, Colo./Team Colorado) posting her third career win over Canton.
