Women's Hockey Hits the Road for Pair of NEWHL Contests

Bengals face Morrisville Friday, Cortland Saturday

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's hockey team is set for a pair of road NEWHL contests this weekend, facing Morrisville on Friday afternoon at 1 pm, and Cortland on Saturday at 3 pm.

EYES ON THE BENGALS
 
  • Buffalo State enters the weekend with a 4-10-0 overall record (0-9-0 NEWHL) after falling to Potsdam 4-1 at home in its last game. Alex Groh (Elma, NY/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) netted her first collegiate goal in the contest.
  • Four freshmen lead the Bengals in points this season: Erica Greene (Oswego, NY/Shoreline Sharks) has 11 points, Vanessa Willick (Williamsville, NY/Buffalo Bisons) and Emma Ramseier (Oak Creek, WI/Milwaukee Jr. Admirals) each have nine points, while Madi Digges (Madison, AL/St. Louis Blues AAA) has eight points.
  • The Bengals are second in the NEWHL with an 88.9% success rate on the penalty kill this season, a mark that is also 24th nationally. Buffalo State has also netted a pair of short-handed goals 13th best in the country.

  • Morrisville carries a 3-11-1 record (0-8-0 NEWHL) into the weekend, dropping a pair of conference contests to Cortland last weekend.
  • Kate Mabey's eight points on one goal and seven assists lead Morrisville this season.
  • Morrisville's goalie trio of Maggie Jones, Emma Plett, and Elizabeth Timby have combined for 484 saves this season, most in the NEWHL and tenth-most saves in the country.
 
RESEARCHING THE RED DRAGONS
 
  • Cortland sits at 9-3-0 (6-2-0 NEWHL), and the Red Dragons are riding a five-game winning streak heading into the weekend after a 14-0 victory over Hilbert on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Mia Hlasnick is second in the conference, and sixth nationally, with 1.58 points per game.
  • The Red Dragons boast the best scoring offense in the NEWHL at 4.50 goals per game, as well as the best scoring defense at 1.17 goals allowed per game and four shutouts.
 
THE HISTORY
 
  • Morrisville is undefeated against Buffalo State since 2017, winning all nine matchups against the Bengals. The Mustangs came away with a 5-0 victory last season.
  • Buffalo State and Cortland are tied with 27-27-10 records since 2000. The Red Dragons defeated Buffalo State in a pair of contests earlier this season at the Ice Arena.
