BUFFALO, NY – Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville Griffith) of the Buffalo State women's volleyball team and
Tariq Nelson (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) of the Buffalo State football team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week for their respective performances this past weekend.
Wittman, a freshman math education major, led the Bengals with 15 kills in a five set thriller against the University of Rochester on Saturday. Wittman also tallied two service aces and 11 digs in the win. On the year, Wittman leads the team with 263 kills which also sits fifth in the SUNYAC. She also has 32 service aces and is averaging nearly three kills per set: also fifth in the SUNYAC.
The women's volleyball team returns to action tomorrow night as they travel to Brockport to battle the Golden Eagles in the SUNYAC Tournament First Round.
Nelson, a senior communication major, led the Bengals receiving group with eight receptions for 94 yards. Nelson leads the team with 38 catches on the year for 569 yards: averaging nearly 15 yards per catch. He also has a pair of touchdowns on the year and currently sits 59 yards short (1,941 yards) of 2,000 career receiving yards.
The football team returns to action for the final time of Saturday as they host St. Lawrence for Senior Day at 1:00 pm.
