HOUGHTON, NY – The Buffalo State indoor track and field teams had several strong performances as they opened their 2023-24 campaign at the Houghton December Classic at the Kerr-Pegula Field House.
 
 
FOR THE BENGAL MEN

• Chris Kaszynski (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) set the tone with a first place and school record performance in the pole vault with a leap of 4.65 meters.
• Kaszynski's record broke his previous record of 4.60 meters from last season.
• Valentino Lucas (Amityville, NY/Amityville) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles while Tony Bates (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) crossed the line in fifth.
• Tyler McGrath (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) earned the win in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 6.94 while Amarion Spivey (Buffalo, NY/Cleveland Hill) finishing third with a time of 7.07.
• McGrath wasn't done yet as he earned the win later in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.36 while Logan Abate (Green Brook, NJ/Watching Hills) finished fourth in 23.10.
• Lucas teamed up with Dylan Devine (Brockport, NY/Brockport), Sidney Morris (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West), and Alexsei Santiago (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) for a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:39.01.
• Xzavier Goodman (Buffalo, NY/Olmstead) earned a third-place finish in his Bengal debut with a 14.49-meter throw in the shot put and also finished seventh in the weight throw.
• Buffalo State also earned a 1-2 finish in the long jump as Nas Muslim Dost (Buffalo, NY/Maryvale) earned the win with Jarrod Polk (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) finishing just behind.
• Kai Messmer (Buffalo, NY/St. Joe's) earned a sixth-place finish in the event.

• Makhia Laster – 60-meter dash – 7.75
• Tyler McGrath – 200-meter dash – 22.36
