BUFFALO, NY – The long wait is over, the Buffalo State University Ice Arena finally has a new Zamboni.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Zamboni arrived at the Ice Arena, greeted by a deafening applause from a group of gracious students-athletes, coaches, and staff. As the crowd waited patiently for the machine to be unloaded, the excitement continued to build.
Ice Arena Manager Chris Biondolillo gazed in awe as the machine was unloaded before his eyes, fighting back tears as he said, "This is the most memorable moment of my life. I am the happiest and luckiest man on Earth!"
The ice resurfacer, a Zamboni Model 546, features four-wheel drive with rugged Dana Spicer axles. Its powerful double pump for the vertical and horizontal augers delivers strong conveyor performance. The hydraulic system provides optimum power and reduced energy consumption for smooth and consistent operation.
As Biondolillo drove the Zamboni for the first time, he was overcome with joy. He said, "If I had children, their births would still be second to this day."
Facilities and Equipment Manager Brent Ford was nearly as happy, snapping hundreds of photos with his cell phone to post to Facebook.
You can see for yourself the difference in ice resurfacing that the new Zamboni provides during Open Skate or Skate-N-Shoot. Times for each can be found on the Ice Arena webpage
