THE MATCHUP… The Buffalo State football team will aim to secure their first win of the season as they will welcome the Alfred State Pioneers for their home opener as well as Homecoming. Alfred State comes to Buffalo State with a 2-0 record on the year as they aim to even the series with the Bengals at 2-2. Last season, the Pioneers came away with a 56-20 victory at Pioneer Stadium.
LAST TIME WE MET... The two sides met a year ago when Alfred State erupted for three touchdowns in the opening quarter. After Buffalo State got on the board with a rushing touchdown in the second quarter, the Pioneers added a pair of scores to take a 35-7 lead into halftime.
Buffalo State came out of halftime with a score on their first possession before the Pioneers added three more touchdowns to help secure the win.
Keegan Whitfield (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) registered 110 receiving yards and a touchdown as part of a 320 yard offensive output from the Bengals.
For the Pioneers, Noah Currier tallied six touchdowns and over 200 yards of offense.

Amir Cameron and
Brody Stevens (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park). Cameron and Stevens are two key returners for the Bengals this season with Cameron leading the way on the offensive side of the ball and Stevens on the defensive side.
Cameron played in seven games last year, totaling over 1,000 yards with four touchdowns. Stevens appeared in all ten games tallying 66 tackles and three pass breakups.
ABOUT THE BENGALS' COACH… Mike Neale enters his first season leading Buffalo State after most recently serving as the defensive coordinator at Delaware Valley for two seasons. During his time with the Aggies, the team compiled a 16-6 overall record and ranked second in total defense and scoring defense in the country in 2024.
A native on San Diego, Calif., Neale has totaled over 20 years of coaching experience in all three phases as well as a head coach, including 19 years at the Division III level.
ASSESSING ALFRED STATE… The Pioneers are off to a 2-0 start to the year led by two offensive outbursts. Alfred State totaled 131 total points in their victories over Thiel and Hilbert. Noah Currier continues to be an offensive force nearly 400 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns. On the defensive side, Marcus Roney had five tackles for loss while four different Pioneers have at least one interception.
Head Coach Scott Linn enters his eighth season leading the Pioneers in 2026. In that time, Linn has a record of 33-41 and is the second winningest coach in program history. The Pioneers were ECFC Champions three separate times (2021, 2023, 2024) and have two NCAA Tournament appearances (2023 and 2024) under Linn's tenure.
