BUFFALO, NY—
Steve Orfanos (East Meadow/East Meadow) and Andy Donner (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) each scored two goals to lead Buffalo State (10-5/4-3) to a 8-0 romp over visiting Potsdam (4-10-2/0-7) in a SUNYAC game today at Coyer Field.
Despite dominating play from the opening whistle, the Bengals didn't get on the board until
Stephen Galante (Tonawanda/Canisius) scored on a penalty kick at the 36:03 mark of the first half, after teammate
Brandon Loncar (Kenmore/Kenmore East) was taken down in the box by Potsdam's Brendan Burkhart (Carmel/Carmel).
Donner scored his first goal of the game exactly three minutes later with a shot from 30 yards out to the upper left corner, assisted by
Zack Wood (Tonawanda/Kenmore East).
Mike Bolan (Endwell/Seton Catholic) added a goal at 40:12 from
Peter Anthony (Marietta/Tully) to put Buffalo State up by three at the half.
The Bengals lit up the scoreboard in the second half, scoring five goals, including two by Orfanos in the 54th and 59th minutes.
Thomas Karanas (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) scored his first goal of the season, firing a shot past Potsdam's Andrew Moncrief (Lowville/Lowville) to the lower right corner.
Donner tallied his second goal of the game off a
Matt Huson (Endicott/Union-Endicott) assist at 64:30, while Huson scored his first goal of the season in the 86th minute to close out the scoring for Buffalo State. Anthony finished with two assists, while
Steve Fox (Oswego/Oswego) also added a helper.
Potsdam had two scoring chances, the first coming in the 74th minute on a direct kick by Ron Burd (Branchport/Penn Yann) and the second at the 75:48 mark when Mark McCloskey (Tully/Tully) hit the crossbar).
Buffalo State outshot Potsdam, 37-5.
Dan Corti (Amawalk/Somers) earned the win in the goal and his second shutout of the season without having to make save. Potsdam's DJ Martin (Mechanicville/Mechanicville) made nine saves in the loss.
The Bengals are back in action tomorrow when they host Plattsburgh, while Potsdam travels to Fredonia.
