Buffalo State's women's soccer team locked up the fourth seed in the SUNYAC standings and earned the right to host the first home conference playoff game in the program's history. The Bengals will host No. 5 Geneseo in a quarterfinal match on Sat., Oct. 31, at 3:15 p.m. at Coyer Field 

Tickets will be sold at the gate for $5 for the general public and $2 for students with valid ID.

The Bengals clinched the fourth spot with a 2-0 upset victory over Brockport last Saturday, improving their overall record to 7-4-5 and concluding the conference regular season a 5-3-1 mark. Geneseo is 10-4-2 overall and finished two points behind Buffalo State in the conference standings with a 4-3-2 record in league play.

Geneseo defeated the Bengals 2-1 at Coyer Field just this past Friday, netting the game-winning goal with just 1:45 remaining, after the Bengals had tied the game at 1-1 just minutes earlier.

Despite that loss, Buffalo State is currently in the midst of its best stretch of the season, going 5-1-1 over its last seven games. Senior Leighana Krzyzanowski (Ontario/Wayne Central) leads the Bengals with eight goals and 18 points, followed by junior Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) who has 16 points, including a team-best 10 assists. Freshman Virginia Porten (Auburn/Auburn) is holding down the last line of defense after an injury sidelined starting goalkeeper Meghan Jarrell (Hamburg/Hamburg). In three starts, Porten has two shutouts with a 0.63 goals against average and a .850 save percentage.

Both teams have final non-conference tune-ups this week. Geneseo plays at Nazareth on Tuesday, and Buffalo State will host another Empire 8 opponent Elmira on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The winner of the Buffalo State/Geneseo game will advance to play at top-seeded Oneonta in the semis on Fri., Nov. 6.
