BUFFALO, NY—Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON/Chingaucousy) netted a goal and an assist as host Buffalo State (1-3/1-1) held off visiting Cortland (3-2/2-1), 3-2, in an ECAC West contest tonight at the Ice Arena.

The Bengals jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the second period that included a pair of first-period goals by Christine Williams (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) and freshman Courtney Carnes (Winslow, ME/Winslow), who tallied her first collegiate goal. McMullan extended the Bengals' lead with a power-play marker, but Cortland scored a pair of deflection goals late in the second frame by Danielle Scharf (Hopewell Jct., NY) and Taylor Puckhaber (Lake Placid, NY) to get back in the game. Neither team scored in the final stanza however, as the Bengals held on for their first victory of the season.

Cortland held a slight 27-25 advantage in shots. Alyssa Koniar (New Berlin, WI/Univ. School of Milwaukee) made 25 saves in the win for Buffalo State, and Sarah Sitcov (Arlington, VA) had 22 stops for the Red Dragons. Both teams were 1 for 5 on the power play.

Buffalo State will host Cortland again tomorrow at 7 p.m.
