BUFFALO, NY— Buffalo State's (2-3-0/2-1-0) women's hockey hosted Cortland (3-3-0/2-2-0) in an ECAC West matchup tonight at the Ice Arena and swept the two-day series as
Christine Williams (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) scored the game-winning goal at 12:16 of the second period en route to a Bengals' 3-2 victory.
Cortland opened the scoring just 5:35 into the game on a power-play goal from Erin Farmer (Saranac Lake/Saranac Lake).
Jo Ann Scherer (Woodinville, WA/Woodinville) responded shortly after for the Bengals as she stole the puck inside the blue line and her backhand shot just trickled past the goalie tying the game at one.
Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON/Chingaucousy) scored her second of the year at 5:58 in the second period for the Bengals before Williams also scored her second of the season. Buffalo State would hold on despite another goal from Cortland's Maggie Giamo (Orchard Park/RIT) at 2:36 in the third.
Goaltender
Kelly Mendola (Grand Island/Kenmore East) faced 15 shots making 13 saves in her first action for Buffalo State this season. The Bengals outshot the Red Dragons 27-15.
The next action for the women's hockey team will be next Saturday, November 21 as the Bengals travel to Oswego for a 3:00 p.m. start time.
