FREDONIA, NY—Fredonia (4-2-1/1-0) scored three goals in the first half and held on for a 4-2 win over visiting Buffalo State (2-2-3/0-1) today in the SUNYAC opener.

Fredonia raced out to a 3-0 lead in the opening half. Melissa Mahoney (Poughkeepsie/Ketcham) and Leighana Krzyzanowski (Ontario/Wayne) each scored in the second half for the Bengals, but the Blue Devils added an insurance marker and claimed the win. Buffalo State outshot Fredonia, 19-16, including 13-6 in the second half, but the Blue Devils goalkeeper made 12 saves to keep the Bengals from completing the comeback.

Buffalo State will next play at New Paltz on Friday at 4 p.m.
