Women’s Soccer to Host New Paltz for SUNYAC Quarterfinals

Virginia Porten will look to backstop the Bengals into the semifinals
Buffalo State women's soccer will host its second home State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoff game in as many years this Saturday when it welcomes New Paltz to Coyer Field for a 1 p.m. quarterfinal matchup.

Buffalo State enters as the No. 3 seed with a 6-2-1 record in league play and has an 11-5-2 overall mark. The Bengals 11 wins already, mark their highest win total since 1985 and puts them just two wins shy of the school record set back in 1984.

The Bengals' are led offensively by senior co-captain Barbara Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) who has eight goals and 22 points in 18 games. Sophomore Melissa Mahoney (Poughkeepsie/Ketcham) has bolstered the attack with six goals and 18 points. Co-captains Ashley Mazurkiewicz (Grand Island/Grand Island) and Tina Boberskyj (Rochester/Greece-Odyssey) have helped anchor the midfield and defensive corps. Sophomore goalkeeper Virginia Porten (Auburn/Auburn) has also had a strong season with a 1.15 goals against average and four shutouts in 15 appearances.

Buffalo State defeated New Paltz 5-1 earlier this season on Sept. 24 at Coyer Field. Five different Bengals scored in that game.

The winner will advance to the semifinals at Oneonta on Friday and will face second-seeded Plattsburgh at 6:30 p.m.
