ONEONTA, NY—Buffalo State (11-6-3) got off to a slow start and could not climb its way back into the game as its season came to a close with a 4-0 loss to Plattsburgh (15-2-1) in the SUNYAC semifinals today in Oneonta.

The Cardinals opened the scoring with a goal in the 30th minute on a direct kick and then extended the lead with a breakaway goal just over four minutes later. Buffalo State looked to regroup in the second half, but Plattsburgh pushed the advantage to 3-0 just 46 seconds into the period, and added another marker in the 60th minute to put the game out of reach.

Plattsburgh held just a 13-12 edge in shots, but had a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. Virginia Porten (Auburn/Auburn) made six saves on 10 Plattsburgh attempts on goal before being relieved by Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) who was not called on to make a save in the final 27 minutes.

Buffalo State's 11 wins matched the second-highest single-season win total in school history, and the trip to the semifinals was the farthest the Bengals have advanced since their lone finals appearance in 1984.

Plattsburgh will meet host Oneonta in tomorrow's championship game. Oneonta defeated Cortland, 2-0, in today's other semifinal match.
