Cortland Rallies Past Women’s Basketball, 93-86

BUFFALO, NY—Cortland (5-0/1-0) overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to defeat home standing Buffalo State (3-2/0-1), 93-86, in the SUNYAC opener tonight at the Sports Arena.

Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) led Buffalo State with 22 points and added nine rebounds. Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) matched a career high with 21 points and had six assists and seven steals. Kristin Ritch (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) also netted a new career best with 17 points, all in the first half, including hitting 5 of 6 from 3-point range. Divine Sebuharara (Vestal/Vestal) chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Buffalo State erased an early five point deficit with some hot long-range shooting and led 43-37 at halftime. The Bengals quickly pushed the advantage to 10 in the second frame, but the Red Dragons chipped away and took their first lead of the second half with just under 12 minutes remaining. The Bengals pulled back in front, but Cortland used a late 13-1 run to pull away for the win. Cortland shot 56-percent from the field for the game, and hit 10 of 21 (48-percent) from 3-point range. Buffalo State shot 47-percent and was 8 of 21 (38-percent) from behind the arc.

Buffalo State will host Oswego tomorrow at 2 p.m.
